Co-founded by Ailbhe Murphy and Ciaran Smyth, Vagabond Reviews is a Dublin-based interdisciplinary platform combining socially engaged art and research practice. As artists and researchers we are interested in engaging broader publics in alternative forms of cultural participation and knowledge production. Our practice meets in the territory where art and social science encounter each other as particular forms of inquiry. On the side of art we notice ever increasing efforts to situate socially engaged art practice within the art historical way of knowing about contemporary art production. On the side of social science we notice the crisis of legitimation and at the same time, a rich repertoire of critical tools for unpacking and critically engaging with complex social worlds. As an interdisciplinary platform, Vagabond Reviews seeks to bring those two registers together by developing creative and collaborative models of knowledge production, representation and distribution through a combination of art practice, research strategies and critical review.
